Jan van Eyck, active 1422–died 1441
The Arnolfini Portrait, 1434
© The National Gallery, London

The Arnolfini Portrait, by Jan van Eyck is one of the most famous and intriguing paintings in the world.

A richly dressed man and woman stand in a private room. They are probably Giovanni di Nicolao di Arnolfini, an Italian merchant working in Bruges, and his wife.

Every object in this room has been carefully chosen to represent the couple's wealth and social status. The bold and rich colours in this artwork, have inspired our florists to be creative with this arrangement, making a truly sumptuous bouquet.

We have paired Naomi Red Roses that represent the deep red fabric draped across the bed while Burgundy Carnations are used to symbolise the man’s luxurious robe. We included bold Blue Veronica that stands out against the Green Chrysanthemum like the dress the lady is wearing. Blue Eustoma, Gold Erymgium and Copper Ruscus is used to represent the brass chandelier. Cinerea Eucalyptus and Pistache highlights the luxury showcased in this painting.

These luxury flowers are inspired by the masterpieces housed at the National Gallery. Each bouquet is beautifully arranged by our floral designers exclusively for the National Gallery. Included you will receive a gift card print of the artwork and a National Gallery care guide.
