The Entombment (or Christ being carried to his Tomb), about 1500-1
© The National Gallery, London
The masterpiece entitled The Entombment (or Christ being carried to his Tomb) is one of perhaps only three surviving panel paintings by the great Florentine artist Michelangelo. It shows Christ's body being carried to his tomb. Saint John the Evangelist may be the figure on the left carrying Christ's body on strips of winding cloth helped by one of the Three Marys. They carry him up a staircase to his tomb in the rocks.
Our florists took inspiration from the textures and the bold colour scheme in this painting and used Naranja Rose and Naomi Deep Red Roses to represent the clothing of Saint John and Cafe Del Mar Roses to highlight earthy tones. Also included in this stunning hatbox arrangement are Soft Peach Roses, Fresh Rosemary, Natural Birch, Copper Ruscus, Dark Copper Eryngium and Cinerea Eucalyptus.
These luxury flowers are inspired by the masterpieces housed at the National Gallery. Each bouquet is beautifully arranged by our floral designers exclusively for the National Gallery. Included you will receive a gift card print of the artwork and a National Gallery care guide.
