George Stubbs, 1724–1806
Whistlejacket, about 1762
© The National Gallery, London
Inspired by the impressive masterpiece Whistlejacket by George Stubbs, our florists have created a stunning hatbox arrangement. Whistlejacket is one of the most important British paintings of the eighteenth century and is also probably the most well-known portrait of a horse. The Arabian chestnut stallion had won a famous victory in York in 1759. Stubbs decided to focus purely on the stallion against a background of pale gold, he wanted to show the horse free from human control.
Our florists have included Cafe Del Mar Roses, Caramel Carnations, Contoured Willow, Cinerea Eucalyptus, Bronze Ruscus and fresh Rosemary – all to represent the textures and shades in this dramatic painting.
These luxury flowers are inspired by the masterpieces housed at the National Gallery. Each bouquet is beautifully arranged by our floral designers exclusively for the National Gallery. Included you will receive a gift card print of the artwork and a National Gallery care guide
